The opportunity to present information on the internship to up-and-coming leaders at the Emerging Leaders Academy in Lexington that summer was also fulfilling. And, above all, I had the pleasure of meeting and living with four other KAs with whom I will stay in touch for years to come. I was fortunate enough to be able to walk to work every morning from our apartments on campus at the George Washington University.
It was about a minute walk, and I had the pleasure of passing the south side of the White House every morning. The firm hosts a variety of events on the terrace, including fund-raisers for congressional candidates and other celebrations, such as an incredible Fourth of July party.
I would take him to lunch and to fund-raisers or gatherings near Capitol. The recent graduate and Valedictorian of Midwestern State University announced that he would run for city council of the town that he had come to know so well. We, as citizens, must come together in order to move Wichita Falls forward.
Throughout the summer of , Jesse interned with the National Republican Congressional Committee as a participant of the E. While in the capital of the free world, Jesse learned, firsthand, the need for strong leadership in public service.
Fleming Mason Internship Program has been the best opportunity ever presented to me. I am from a small town in Texas that has a population of merely 1, people. This internship has opened my eyes to the bigger picture. It has allowed me to return home with a renewed sense of purpose and direction.
I can guarantee that I am a better man because I was able to experience the E. Fleming Mason Memorial Internship Program. A: I am running for Wichita Falls City Council because I am passionate about our city, I have a desire to serve my neighbors, and I see a need to preserve our history and culture for the next generation. I want to bring a fresh face and new ideas to City Hall and in doing so, reenergize our great city. Q: What experiences in KA and on campus gave you the confidence and knowledge to do this?
We were able to transform a chapter with 8 members and a poor GPA to a member chapter largest on campus with a 3. The challenges we faced strengthened my resolve and abilities. From there, I became involved throughout campus, was appointed by Texas Governor Rick Perry to the Midwestern State Board of Regents, and ended my undergraduate career by being elected and serving as Student Government Association President. In these positions I reviewed budgets in excess of million dollars, worked with community leaders on strategic planning, and witnessed the greater picture in life.
Through all my involvements and accomplishments, I owe KA for. The Order believed in a young cowboy from Alvord, Texas, who had raw abilities but no sense of direction. I am forever proud to have the title of KA. Q: Who are some of the KAs and others that you look up to for mentorship and guidance? A: There are many Brothers that I admire and strive to emulate. To keep this answer short, I will highlight only four. Larry Weise is my role model. He demands excellence from everyone around him.
He works diligently and keeps the interest of the Order at the forefront of his decisions. Reno Gustafson is a genuine KA.
He is a former Wichitan of the Year and has given me amazing opportunities. Reno is one of my biggest supporters and I owe much of my success to his guidance and mentorship. He demonstrates the qualities of gentility and service every day and I aim to walk in his shoes. Finally, Mike Stokes and Stewart Harvey. With them steering the ship, Gamma Omega was awarded 3 national chapter awards and many individual ones as well. Q: How are KAs or your experience in general helping you in your campaign?
A: Fellow members of the Order are assisting my campaign in a variety of capacities. They help knock on doors, hang signs, and cold call residents. Wichita Falls is heavily populated with KAs and they come out in full force to support a Brother. Gamma Omega Alums as well as other KAs have donated resources to fuel my campaign financially.
They have also helped build my reputation to residents in our community. Q: What would be your number one platform plank for a run at the Presidency?
A: If I had to run for President my number one platform would be to bring back the values of our nation. The values of hard work, reverence, respect, and hope. I believe we have strayed from our roots as a nation and our current societal issues are the result. I admire the Greatest Generation for everything they achieved. They were not perfect but they held tight to American values that made them great.
We are not them but we can learn much from their actions and work ethics. They faced the biggest evil our world has ever seen and they won. They won because all of them knew the difference between right and wrong; and they were willing to work for what was right. Jesse Brown for the Town A former E. We were told that we had to walk to the offices and be there by 8am. We arrive on time and Rich runs our group.
When everyone else went back to the residence at lunch, we had to stay back at the offices. We were hungry, angry, and wanting to smoke. Rich kept saying,"Dont worry guys, I sent a tech over to publix to get you a delicious lunch" he kept popping his head in the group room, telling us lunch would be there shortly and it would take awhile for he and the staff to prepare it for us.
The entire time, myself and the other people in the group were fantasizing about this great lunch we were going to get. Finally Rich pops his head in the room and tells us the lunch is ready in the staff room. We all get up, run down there Rich comes in with a huge smile on his face and just starts laughing at us Two by Testiculo Y Uno.
