When watch a movie, we are watching what is essentially a dream. Nolan himself has even admitted that he framed the characters around certain roles in filmmaking. Need more clues? This carries on throughout the whole movie. The number of the train that kills Cobb and Mal, when they are in limbo is The taxi number later on is , and the hotel Mal trashes is in room Here is the most important subconscious clue, since it has to do with the ending that ticked everyone off for being a supposed cliffhanger.
Remember, killing yourself only sends you one level up. If they did, then that means they would go back to the snow fortress. If they went back a level up, that means there is nothing there. That means that the first person to die, Saito, would fill that dream with his subconscious, leading to the ending scene where Cobb supposedly reunites with his children.
How am I sure? The beauty is how that can be a number of things. That would mean Saito never existed. The point is that this movie was designed in a way to make us understand that movies themselves are, well, inception. I could go on and on about this movie, honestly. There are just so many ways to interpret and find new revelations within the narrative.
Seriously, even the blaring trombone composition is taken from that song. Click here to check it out. Not sure how I found myself at this article. However, I have always believed the entire movie was a dream. This is certainly possible. It completely avoids the problem I mentioned of the impossibility of dreams withing dreams.
Look into it. Saito created a dream in which Cobb was home entirely out of his subconscious. A diet of flesh meat tends to develop animalism. A development of animalism lessens spirituality, rendering the mind incapable of understanding truth. The word of God plainly warns us that unless we abstain from fleshly lusts, the physical nature will be brought into conflict with the spiritual nature. Lustful eating wars against health and peace. Thus a warfare is instituted between the higher and the lower attributes of the man.
The lower propensities, strong and active, oppress the soul. The highest interests of the being are imperiled by the indulgence of appetites unsanctioned by Heaven. Those who claim to believe the truth are to guard carefully the powers of body and mind, so that God and His cause will not be in any way dishonored by their words or actions.
The habits and practices are to be brought into subjection to the will of God. We are to give careful attention to our diet. It has been clearly presented to me that God's people are to take a firm stand against meat eating. Would God for thirty years give His people the message that if they desire to have pure blood and clear minds, they must give up the use of flesh meat, if He did not want them to heed this message? By the use of flesh meats the animal nature is strengthened and the spiritual nature weakened.
The moral evils of a flesh diet are not less marked than are the physical ills. Flesh food is injurious to health, and whatever affects the body has a corresponding effect on the mind and the soul.
Think of the cruelty to animals that meat eating involves, and its effect on those who inflict and those who behold it. How it destroys the tenderness with which we should regard these creatures of God! The common use of the flesh of dead animals has had a deteriorating influence upon the morals, as well as the physical institution. Ill health in a variety of forms, if effect could be traced to the cause, would reveal the sure result of flesh eating. Those who use flesh meat disregard all the warnings that God has given concerning this question.
They have no evidence that they are walking in safe paths. They have not the slightest excuse for eating the flesh of dead animals. God's curse is resting upon the animal creation. Many times when meat is eaten, it decays in the stomach, and creates disease. Cancers, tumors, and pulmonary diseases are largely caused by meat eating. Oh, if every one could discern these matters as they have been presented to me, those who are now so careless, so indifferent in regard to their character building; those who plead for indulgence in a flesh meat diet, would never open their lips in justification of an appetite for the flesh of dead animals.
Such a diet contaminates the blood in their veins, and stimulates the lower animal passions. It enfeebles keen perception and vigor of thought to the understanding of God and the truth, and a knowledge of themselves.
Flesh was never the best food; but its use is now doubly objectionable, since disease in animals is so rapidly increasing. Animals are becoming more and more diseased, and it will not be long until animal food will be discarded by many besides Seventh-day Adventists. Foods that are healthful and life sustaining are to be prepared, so that men and women will not need to eat meat.
When will those who know the truth take their stand on the side of right principles for time and for eternity? When will they be true to the principles of health reform?
When will they learn that it is dangerous to use flesh meat? I am instructed to say that if ever meat eating were safe, it is not safe now. The light given me is that it will not be very long before we shall have to give up using any animal food. Even milk will have to be discarded. Disease is accumulating rapidly. The curse of God is upon the earth, because man has cursed it. The habits and practices of men have brought the earth into such a condition that some other food than animal food must be substituted for the human family.
We do not need flesh food at all. God can give us something else. Could you know just the nature of the meat you eat, could you see the animals when living from which the flesh is taken when dead, you would turn with loathing from your flesh meats. The very animals whose flesh you eat, are frequently so diseased that, if left alone, they would die of themselves; but while the breath of life is in them, they are killed and brought to market. You take directly into your system humors and poison of the worst kind, and yet you realize it not.
Often animals are taken to market and sold for food, when they are so diseased that their owners fear to keep them longer. And some of the processes of fattening them for market produce disease. Shut away from the light and pure air, breathing the atmosphere of filthy stables, perhaps fattening on decaying food, the entire body soon becomes contaminated with foul matter.
Animals are often transported long distances and subjected to great suffering in reaching a market. Taken from the green pastures and traveling for weary miles over the hot, dusty roads, or crowded into filthy cars, feverish and exhausted, often for many hours deprived of food and water, the poor creatures are driven to their death, that human beings may feast on the carcasses.
Many die of disease caused wholly by meat eating; yet the world does not seem to be the wiser. Animals are frequently killed that have been driven quite a distance for the slaughter.
Their blood has become heated. They are full of flesh, and have been deprived of healthy exercise, and when they have to travel far, they become surfeited and exhausted, and in that condition are killed for market.
Their blood is highly inflamed, and those who eat of their meat, eat poison. Some are not immediately affected, while others are attacked with severe pain, and die from fever, cholera, or some unknown disease. Very many animals are sold for the city market known to be diseased by those who have sold them, and those who buy them are not always ignorant of the matter.
Especially in larger cities this is practiced to a great extent, and meat eaters know not that they are eating diseased animals. Some animals that are brought to the slaughter seem to realize by instinct what is to take place, and they become furious, and literally mad. They are killed while in that state, and their flesh is prepared for market. Their meat is poison, and has produced, in those who have eaten it, cramps, convulsions, apoplexy, and sudden death.
Yet the cause of all this suffering is not attributed to the meat. Some animals are inhumanly treated while being brought to the slaughter.
They are literally tortured, and after they have endured many hours of extreme suffering, are butchered. Swine have been prepared for market even while the plague was upon them, and their poisonous flesh has spread contagious diseases, and great mortality has followed. The liability to take disease is increased tenfold by meat eating. Worldly physicians cannot account for the rapid increase of disease among the human family.
But we know that much of this suffering is caused by the eating of dead flesh. The animals are diseased, and by partaking of their flesh, we plant the seeds of disease in our own tissue and blood. Then when exposed to the changes in a malarious atmosphere, these are more sensibly felt; also when we are exposed to prevailing epidemics and contagious diseases, the system is not in a condition to resist the disease.
You have flesh, but it is not good material. You are worse off for this amount of flesh. If you would each come down to a more spare diet, which would take from you twenty-five or thirty pounds of your gross flesh, you should be much less liable to disease.
The eating of flesh meats has made a poor quality of blood and flesh. Your systems are in a state of inflammation, prepared to take on disease. You are liable to acute attacks of disease, and to sudden death, because you do not possess the strength of constitution to rally and resist disease.
There will come a time when the strength and health you have flattered yourself you possessed will prove to be weakness. I have felt urged by the Spirit of God to set before several the fact that their suffering and ill health was caused by a disregard of the light given them upon health reform.
I have shown them that their meat diet, which was supposed to be essential, was not necessary, and that, as they were composed of what they ate, brain, bone, and muscle were in an unwholesome condition, because they lived on the flesh of dead animals; that their blood was being corrupted by this improper diet; that the flesh which they ate was diseased, and their entire system was becoming gross and corrupted.
Flesh meats will depreciate the blood. Cook meat with spices, and eat it with rich cakes and pies, and you have a bad quality of blood. The system is too heavily taxed in disposing of this kind of food. The mince pies and the pickles, which should never find a place in any human stomach, will give a miserable quality of blood.
And a poor quality of food, cooked in an improper manner, and insufficient in quantity, cannot make good blood. Flesh meats and rich food, and an impoverished diet, will produce the same results. Cancers, tumors, and all inflammatory diseases are largely caused by meat eating. From the light God has given me, the prevalence of cancer and tumors is largely due to gross living on dead flesh. The meat diet is the serious question.
Shall human beings live on the flesh of dead animals? The answer, from the light that God has given is, No, decidedly No. Health reform institutions should educate on this question. Physicians who claim to understand the human organism ought not to encourage their patients to subsist on the flesh of dead animals. They should point out the increase of disease in the animal kingdom. The testimony of examiners is that very few animals are free from disease, and that the practice of eating largely of meat is contracting diseases of all kinds,—cancers, tumors, scrofula, tuberculosis, and numbers of other like affections.
Those who use flesh foods little know what they are eating. Often if they could see the animals when living and know the quality of the meat they eat, they would turn from it with loathing.
People are continually eating flesh that is filled with tuberculosis and cancerous germs. Tuberculosis, cancer, and other fatal diseases are thus communicated. The tables of many professed Christian women are daily set with a variety of dishes which irritate the stomach and produce a feverish condition of the system. Flesh meats constitute the principle article of food upon the tables of some families, until their blood is filled with cancerous and scrofulous humors.
It may be a lazy, hazy night, but a bright moon will shine its way down. Park on a dark Surry County country road and enjoy this bright moon.
Doing the math: August fogs compared to the snow of winter. My grandma in northeastern North Carolina always did the math when it came to comparing the fogs of August mornings with the number and inches of snow the upcoming winter would bring. She was an early riser and always up before the sun rose. Each day in August, she kept a close eye on the foggy mornings of August and whether they were thick or thin, and also the days of the fogs.
She wrote down each fog and whether they were light or heavy. At the end of August, she did the math. Heavy fogs were heavy snows and light fogs were light snows.
Her predictions were quite accurate for the s. Time to go to the hardware and purchase a snow shovel. Now is a great time to purchase a snow shovel if you need one. One thing for sure is that there is no rush for them in the summer. The selection is great and they will not spoil. If you buy one at any season, make sure it is lightweight as well as durable. Cooling off the birds by refilling bath. The summer sun quickly shines down and heats the water in the birdbaths.
Refill the baths twice a day during the heat of August. When birds take baths, they splash water, making the remaining water heat up quicker as the afternoon sun bears down. Dump out the hot water before refilling with fresh cool water. Keeping eyes on hot weather harvest of tomatoes.
On hot summer days when we do not get a thunderstorm, keep a close check on ripening tomatoes. On hot days when no rain is in sight, birds in desperation will peck holes in ripe tomatoes to find moisture. To avoid this, harvest the tomatoes and place them on porch or deck in a semi-sunny location. Making old-fashioned baked potato cakes. These potato cakes make a great meal on a summer night served with southern fried chicken and a plate of freshly sliced tomatoes and maybe some hot chicken gravy poured over these potato cakes.
My mother always made potato cakes as a substitute for meat or would make them to serve along side hot dogs steamed with fried onions and homemade cole slaw.
This potato cake recipe will make six cakes. In a sauce pan, cut up one large onion and dice into quarter inch cubes and lightly fry in a half stick light margarine until tender and set aside. In a large bowl, lightly beat one egg and add to the onions. Mix two cups of mashed potatoes, half teaspoon salt, half teaspoon pepper, half cup plain flour, one half teaspoon sugar. Mix all ingredients and shape into six patties.
Lightly beat another egg and dip patties into beaten egg. Grease a cookie sheet heavily with Crisco Shortening. Bake at degrees for twenty-five minutes, flip over and bake other side for five minutes until lightly brown. Place cakes on a plate lined with paper towels. When you finish grilling steaks and burgers, allow the charcoal to burn to ashes and let them cool overnight and pour them around the outside of the porch and house to prevent ants from entering the house.
If ants get in the kitchen, mix water and vinegar in equal amounts in a small bowl and dip a paper towel in the mixture and wipe on counter tops, tables, and other surface areas. You can also use charcoal dust around roses to repel all kinds of crawling insects. The Almanac for month of August The moon will be full on Monday night, Aug. For others, there sure seems to be some divine guidance — and maybe a little grandparently influence — in the direction they go. The couple have served in Mount Airy for a little more than three years, having come to the local Salvation Army post in June Their family has also grown along the way, with 2-year-old Jeffrey and another child on the way, due this autumn.
The two met while in college at Mars Hill University, not far from Asheville, where their desire to serve was quickly evident. Bonner Foundation. Similar to many scholarship programs, it is based on demonstrated merit of the applicants and financial need, but an equally important component is commitment to community service.
Bonner scholars are required to complete 10 hours of community service each week while in school. Although she had grown up just outside of Atlanta, Lea had ties to both the Salvation Army and the Asheville area — her grandparents were long-time officers with the Salvation Army, retiring from the mission in Asheville. The longer they were in that community, the more they became involved with various ministries.
Lea, in particular, was drawn more into the work of the Salvation Army. She was excited about the chance, seizing on the offer. Lea, she makes clear, really enjoys working with Christmas programs, and that first work with the Salvation Army was right up her alley, though a little overwhelming at first.
Jeff explained that was no easy feat, given that the Christmas Kettle program there included locations. Along the way, Jeff was working in various positions. Though he was no longer teaching at the time Jeff was still working with kids through the Boys and Girls Club while Lea was moving more toward what she thought would be a career in HR.
By this time, others around them had suggested they consider taking on the role of professional ministry through the Salvation Army. Lea said she was at an HR conference one day, then was driving home when she felt God reaching down to her, and she can still recall the words that came to her mind, as if planted there. I want you to lead. I want you to be an officer. As life often is, that day was far too packed with tasks and schedules for her to be able to talk with Jeff about the calling, or even mention it to him in passing.
Unbeknownst to her, Jeff had his own interaction with the Almighty that day. He got his answer quickly, knowing almost immediately that God was calling him to full-time ministry as a Salvation Army officer. That was a Wednesday, and the two of them had been apart — separated by more than a hundred miles — all day.
Soon enough, the two had left Asheville and were in Atlanta, taking part in a two-year Salvation Army seminary program, and then they were sent to Mount Airy. The Salvation Army, and its leadership structure, is different from other churches and ministries in many ways, among them being so involved in distributing food, clothing, and other assistance to the needy, in addition to preaching, teaching, and counseling on spiritual matters. Within the ministry portion of the operation, he said the person with the least tenure has been there 18 years.
Another challenge not faced by most other ministers is the possibility of being transferred to another location.
While the Brooks have been in Mount Airy for more than three years, they both said the Salvation Army regularly transfers its officers from one location to another as a result of retirements and the occasional person leaving the ministry.
On the third Sunday of April is when it often occurs. Ultimately, though, the couple said they leave it up to the Lord to determine where they will serve. This pair of violin virtuosos use their violins to interpret reggae classics, American pop songs, and their own creations accompanied by a DJ and a drummer.
Their music journey began when Malcolm was enrolled at Bethune Elementary, a magnet school located in Hollywood, Florida. He gained interest in music at that time but was pushed toward the violin by his third grade teacher.
Their dad was DJ Mystro in his early years, thus the Sons of Mystro name was chosen to carry on the family legacy. They have played for many events and with many well-known musicians but their most surreal experiences are collaborating with Black Violin, an American hip-hop group that primarily plays the violin as well. Black Violin played in Mount Airy for area schools several years ago. Black Violin was a major influence on this group from its beginnings.
Those who hear them say their violins sing in many genres. These performances are sponsored in part by a grant from South Arts. South Arts is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts as well as other public and private sources. One day while Jesus was teaching, He was asked what was the greatest commandment. The Master Teacher without hesitation stated that we are to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
In fact, it is often ignored altogether. Last week we examined three dangerous love affairs that many have developed that causes us to commit spiritual adultery. The first one we looked at was when we love ourselves more than God. The second was when we love our money and possessions more than God. The third was when we love the praise of men more than God.
A dangerous love affair can occur when we love darkness rather than light. These are sins that we want to hide, not only from God, but from men. In the Bible we see Achan who hid forbidden possessions he had taken from Jericho in the floor of his tent to keep others from discovering his deed. We see Cain who buried Abel in the wilderness hoping God would not discover his sin. Ananias and Sapphira in the New Testament held back some of the money they had promised to God, hoping it would remain hidden.
Many times, we find ourselves trying to hold onto secret sins instead of releasing them under the blood of Jesus Christ. We often hope they will bring us happiness, when in reality they will only bring us misery. Are you having a dangerous love affair with a secret sin that should be confessed and placed under the blood of Jesus Christ?
A dangerous love affair can occur when we love the world more than God. In 1 John John tells us that we are to not love the world or the things that are in the world, because if we love the world the love of the Father is not in us. There are many professing believers who are chasing the things of the world instead of pursuing the things of God. Many are seeking power, position, popularity, fame, honor, or glory instead of a faithful relationship with God.
Paul spoke of a man named Demas who loved the world more than Jesus. In fact, Demas even forsook following Christ. Sadly, there are many people today that have drifted away from following the Lord and are following the world because they love the world more than God. She paid a great price by losing not only the things of the world, but her family and her life.
One last example from the Scripture is the rich man Jesus spoke about who had a bumper crop and was more concerned about storing his crops than he was about where his soul would spend eternity. Many people today are desiring to accumulate and protect the things of the world. As a result, they are missing that which is more valuable than any earthly treasure, and that is a relationship with creator God.
Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? A dangerous love affair can be when we love pleasures more than God. People find more time to spend on recreation and pleasure than they do serving the Lord.
In the Scriptures we see an example of this in King Solomon. He allowed himself to drift away from his once faithful relationship with the Lord and begin to seek satisfaction in the fleeting pleasures in this world. He wrote in Ecclesiastes that in the latter years of his life that all pleasures were vain, empty, and useless. Are you in a dangerous love affair with pleasures? In the past two weeks we have examined six ways of committing spiritual adultery against God.
We need to pray and examine our lives daily to see if we are flirting with or engaged in a dangerous love affair. If so, we need to pray and confess that sin, asking God to forgive us and by His Holy Spirit flee and forsake any sin keeping us from wholly loving and serving Him. This emergency grant funding was provided to North Carolina cultural organizations experiencing hardships due to the COVID pandemic. Nothing is as graceful as butterflies floating around flowers and foliage on a warm summer afternoon. Nothing is as refreshing as a glass of fresh lemonade filled with ice cubes, except maybe this lemonade pie.
This pie is simple to prepare and will keep the kitchen cool at the same time. All you have to do is mix one large container of Cool Whip, one can six ounces lemonade concentrate thawed , one can Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk, two three-ounce boxes Lemon Jello. After mixing ingredients well, pour into two graham cracker pie crust and chill until firm.

There is a certain amount if electricity and energy in a Dog Day afternoon thunderstorm. It goes a long way in jump-starting the summer garden plot into go-go-green mode that seems to give the vegetables a new lease on life.
Fireflies on a summer evening after a thunderstorm. Have you ever noticed that there are more fireflies after an afternoon thunderstorm occurs?
Do you think the energy of a thunderstorm gives them an energy boost? Whatever the cause, we are glad to see the lawn, garden, and neighborhood aglow with an abundance of fireflies. Keep baits and traps ready for Japanese beetles. The humidity of Dog Days is usually an invitation for Japanese beetles. Their favorite foods are grape leaves, roses, green bean foliage, and corn silks, but they will eat anything that is green. When you see just one beetle, place your traps and baits.
Traps are the safest and most effective way to control Japanese beetles without harming the environment. Every other day, drop the trap of beetles into a bucket of boiling water and then pour the beetles out into the grass for birds to eat. Pour the hot water out on the driveway or street and not on the lawn where boiling water would kill the grass.
Always place beetle traps away from garden, flower beds, or roses and place in areas that will draw them away from garden. When purchasing beetle traps, spend extra money and buy traps with plastic tops and bottoms that screw onto the tops.

Dog Day heat and humidity stresses tomato plants. The heat, humidity, and dryness of Dog Days will cause stress in the vines of tomatoes and cause yellow bottom wilt. When you first see this occurring on the tomato plants, it will be on bottom leaves.
Follow instructions on the bottle and mix with water. Pour in a spray bottle like glass cleaner comes in and spray around the bottom leaves where the wilt starts on a dry day with no rain in the forecast. After a rainfall, wait until plants dry and spray again. A mist is effective and much safer than a sprayer.
Songs of Katydids on a summer night. In late July, the Katydids are singing a song which is a song of future events coming our way as they sing of heavy dews that warn us that even at the height of Dog Days, autumn is just down the road and over the horizon.
Another sound is the mockingbird singing a summer song with zero hint of autumn in his voice. The mockingbird sings his song to us that we should have a song in our heart in the middle of the night.
