Of interest here, too, for those familiar with Peggy's appearance on "The Judy Garland Show" is Peggy's solo treatment of the novelty "Big Bad Bill" which is a comic highlight. All in all, this is a fine album that should delight the Peg-o-philes among us as well as those who admire this legend to a lesser degree. As a starting point with Peggy Lee, it should be remembered that none of the Lee signature tunes are found on this collection but it does give ample evidence of the lady at her best.

This issue also includes three bonus tracks not on the original album. I love Peggy Lee. I remember as a child in the 70's seeing her on the Johnny Carson Show and wondering to myself, who is this kook with the turbans and matching matte jersey gowns that slurred her words so much? In the 60's she slurred a little less and made brilliant swinging recordings like this one. She has such a sly, sexy delivery. Now if I could just locate some more of these gems, I would be in heaven.

Capitol Capitol used two different labels for their s compact 33 LLPs. The earliest one corresponded to the label they used for LPs from or from album to It had a vertical line with the Capitol logo on the left side of the label.

Many of the Compact 33 little LPs within that range are found today with the second label see below , due to being issued later. In , American singer and songwriter Madonna recorded a cover version of "Fever" for her fifth studio album , Erotica. She served as a producer for the song along with Shep Pettibone. Madonna was in the studio putting down tracks for the album and had just recorded a song called "Goodbye to Innocence".

Madonna liked the way it sounded so much that she recorded it. According to author Rikky Rooksby, Madonna changed the composition of the original version by adding drum rhythms, accompanied by a beatbox sound like snare drums.

Removing the chord progression of the original, Madonna introduces original lyrics into the song. Instrumentation of the track includes strings , marimba and finger-pops at various intervals throughout. Rooksby noticed that Madonna sang with a distant and disembodied voice, and relegated it to the dance music accompanying the lyrics.

Author Rikky Rooksby, described it as "unsexy", and called it a "sterile track" which is "certainly misplaced as the second track of [ Erotica ]". Considine praised the song as a "sassy, house-style remake" of the original version. He noted that when Madonna and the team of producers that worked on the album "push beyond the expected It's cold, deadened, remote.

Lee blush". Although "Fever" was never officially released as a single in the United States, it managed to become a dance hit, becoming Madonna's 15th song to hit number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play.

It topped the chart for the issue dated May 15, in its seventh week of ascending. It showcases her posing like ancient goddesses. She is enveloped in a flame-like atmosphere and eventually burns up.

According to Sednaoui, he wanted to portray the singer "like a provocative saint, somebody that speaks out and tells the truth, and is ready to burn for it"; he also recalled that the executives from Maverick wanted to do "something that's not the [Madonna] we know — more pop, more disco, more club [ After " Erotica ", the singer partially strips and proceeds to straddle and dances suggestively with two half-naked male dancers.

At the end of the song, Madonna and the two backup dancers descend into a literal ring of fire. Her original recording of the song was included on the soundtrack album for the American musical dramedy film , The Fighting Temptations , in which she also had a leading role.

Elliott suggested to the singer to record "Fever" as it was one of his favorite songs. When she got a role in The Fighting Temptations , the song seemed "perfect" for it as stated by Elliot. In a review of the show, Dave Simpson from The Guardian felt that the performance of "Fever" was "a note perfect if pointless version" of the original.

During the end, she turns and says "Catch the fever", the tagline of the fragrance. In an interview with Women's Wear Daily , the singer described the sexual tone of the video stating: "My sexiest moments are when I'm just getting out of the tub or the shower and I'm clean, so I wanted to incorporate that in the ads. The dress was this liquid-y satin. The song Fever I did years ago and always loved it. In the film Spider-Man 3 , Peter steals the show when a jazz band in a club attempts to perform it.

Peggy's sweet as sugar, but working here with a heck of a lot of spice – thanks to arranger Benny Carter, who brings in a wonderfully jazzy feel to the set! The album's one of Peggy's best from her comeback years at Capitol – and a prime example of the syncopated, slinking mode of arrangement that was the best 60s discovery for the Peggy Lee voice – and which allowed her .

A full, rich set of vocal tunes from Peggy Lee – all done in a style that's quite different than her later work at Capitol Records, but still mighty darn nice! Sy Oliver handled the arrangements for the record – and he brings in a blend of strings and jazz that really creates a lot of depth in the sound – a dynamic range that comes not just from Peggy 's vocals, but from the larger.
