The lyric "Well when I thought, well I thought when I thought you was my friend" could possibly be referring to Lennon in the context of Beatle history. RAM was an album full of angst and little jibes toward the broken relations of the four lads from Liverpool. I never understood the dog reference, but it sounds like defensive bragging. I think the dog is The Beatles.
With just 3 legs now John, George and Ringo. It's very sarcastic. Flag JoBrasil on September 10, My dog got three legs, but he can't run. The Beatles? Well I thought you was my friend, but you let me down.
Definitely Lennon When I fly above the clouds, you could knock me down with a feather. Lennon getting high, stoned John Lennon, Paul is the bad one, it was all him Fact is that Paul was a bit too heavy handed trying to take over running the band after Brian Epstein died. This caused a lot of resentment from the rest of the boys. But it was John who broke up the band with his drug addiction, going far astray of the band and his involvement with detrimental outside forces, most importantly Yoko Ono.
John, like most addicts that are systematically destroying everything they hold near and dear in their lives, took his vitriol that he had for himself out on Paul. Probably the one relationship he hated most losing. General Comment Could be about John or George, maybe both.

Perhaps ironically, Lennon professed a liking for the song, listing it as one of the better recordings on Ram. Soon after he was replaced with Hugh McCracken.
Love this bluesy tune on the masterpiece RAM! Ha ha, John knew how clever Paul could be when he gave him a deserved zing or two. Anyway the tune, the lyrics are wonderful. One of the uniqueness qualities of this song is three different tempos and rhythms for each of three bars. Necessary cookies are absolutely essential for the website to function properly. The album features mainly Paul on lead vocals, with Linda joining him on harmonies. Elton John later said somewhere that he thought it was the best harmonies he'd heard in a long while. It was very much the two of us against the world at that point.
