The Saturdays , the first major-label girl band to be launched in four years, are therefore in the unenviable position of trying to muscle in on some pretty safeguarded territory. Featuring two members of the pre-teen pop band S Club Juniors and several former stage school students, they've certainly got the experience, but judging from their debut album, they've also got a fighting chance of chart success too.

Chasing Lights isn't exactly a radical departure from their counterparts, but it has an infectious quality which proves the recent Top Ten success of their first two singles, the Yazoo sampling synth-heavy "If This Is Love" and the robotic disco-pop of "Up" were no fluke.

The ballads, so often the weakest link on a pop album, are nearly as convincing. The title track is a gorgeous midtempo acoustic number and "Fall" is a classy Ne-Yo -style seductive slow jam, but the dated "Issues," featuring the rather clumsy line, "can't decide if I should slap you or kiss you," sounds like a Max Martin reject from the '90s. If they're lucky to make it to album number two, the Saturdays will have to try and develop a sound of their own.

Una had been an artist in her own right in her native Ireland and Mollie had been in the X-factor Uk with girl group Fallen Angelz. After touring in support of Girls Aloud on thier Tangled Up tour in the girls realesed thier debut Chasing Lights in October and again in Septemeber with some new songs Does it do it's job to introduce the world to The Sats I think it does so lets get to it! If This Is Love: The group's first single is ironically now thier least favorite and though the song is bouncy and catchy I understand why.

You can almost picture them holding someone hostage. The vocals from Una and Vanessa shine though. Up: The second single from the album is much better IMO and should have been the choice for first single. The sassy lyrics and 80's like neon inspired dancey beat really work. Vanessa's ad-libs and vocal power come through very well. Keep Her: This one is another one of my personal favorites.

Though the topic I know you have been cheating on me, I'm done with you get out! The 80's's feel notice a pattern yet? Here it's Rochelle's turn to let her vocals shine and the girls harmony IMO right up there with the Sugababes and Destiny's Child in that department is wonderful. And I know what you do I've had enough you can keep her just keep her cause I don't want you!

Issues: Now the ladies slow it down for the first ballad and the third single from the album. This is a fan favorite for a reason. Vanessa and Rochelle take the main vocals for this mid-tempo affair about being confused wanting to leave the signifcant other but just not being able to go through with it, the classic tug of war between heart and head. They woefully croon. Very well done with an easy going yet still engaging beat and melody.

Lies: This one took a while for me to start liking first of all the beat is the exact same beat as "Keep Her" recycling beats only 2 songs apart is not a good look at all but I digress. This time Frankie gets to lead us into this break-up midtempo with a good melody but lazy lyrics and the Keep Her beat she is known as the weakest vocalist of the group and while that IMO is true she CAN sing and does so very well, Una and Frankie with some help from Rochelle team up on the second verse the lazy, poorly written chorus "All you ever told me lies, no more listening to no more words no more second hand tries" is repetative but the girls give thier all with every note.

Work: The fourth and final single from the album that didn't do as well as it should have due to lack of promotion is IMO another gem. Fiesty lyrics with the female protaginist telling a man interested in her he's gonna have to step up his game and "work" harder to get her.

Mollie, Una and Rochelle shine on this one. I got the goods and I want you put your boots on baby get to Work you know you gotta work!

Chasing Lights: This "I'm not happy with this relationship I need to let you go I'm tired of chasing you" Mid-tempo song is IMO average and sounds like it would be better suited to a teenaged artist "I don't wanna waste another day I don't wanna live my life this way I'm tired I just wanna lie back down and I don't wanna waste another night I don't wanna keep on Chasing Lights so go on bye bye! Set Me Off: This Rochelle lead Britney Spears style track it sounds like something on her Blackout album is another filler track IMO it's cute and Rochelle does her thing but it's very forgettable and sounds like a demo from Britney or Katy Perry album.
