The album was initially released on CD and limited edition cassette and inch vinyl coloured black in Australasia and yellow in Europe; limited to 3, copies worldwide. A limited-edition CD box set was released in by Murmur titled The Freak Box , and includes the four main singles from the album as well as a bonus CD containing interviews with the band members about the singles and their respective album.
Lorraine Ali of Rolling Stone wrote "Silverchair have loads of potential. The band may still be using other peoples' riffs to guide its post-pubescent fury, but it's the enthusiasm that makes this Freak Show more than a novelty.
American online magazine Loudwire considered Freak Show to be the 9th best hard rock album of In his review for Freak Show , Stephen Thomas Erlewine , writing for AllMusic , wrote "Silverchair were slaves to their influences on their debut Frogstomp , but on their second album [ While they may still concentrate too heavily on Pearl Jam and Nirvana , they're beginning to fuse the elements together in a more interesting way and are writing stronger hooks.
Freak Show still has its share of mediocre moments [ Chuck Eddy , writing for the American music magazine Spin , thought it was a better album than Silverchair's debut record Frogstomp , as Freak Show featured " punkier speedups, fancier breaks, and more dramatic climbing from quietude interlude to dude attitude". He said:. During the recording of Freak Show they were incredibly wild and young, the energy and adrenaline in the room was like the biggest sugar rush imaginable. Craziest moment: Ben climbing inside a flight case with a movie camera being pushed down the long corridor at Festival Studios by the other two crashing into walls while filming from the inside.
Result: black screen, shrieking screams, major damage to the walls. In , after explaining that he felt Neon Ballroom was Silverchair's "first album", Johns referred to Freak Show as "some kind of dark, high school band skeleton" in the band's "closet".

It gave me a glimpse into the ins and outs of high stakes trading, the ramifications of the greed of the late s at both a personal and societal level. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a cautionary tale filled with angst and ire, nor does it ever preach.
It gave a human face, though, to the people involved at the very outside of a complex web. No matter what things I might have found off putting about Jack, as a reader, I couldn't help but root for him. Finally, Freaks I've Met, brought me a character that I cared about. Jack could easily have been a stock character or a morally bankrupt anti-hero, but Donald Jans gave me something more.
He created a real person, a mostly likable person, with enough depth for readers to care about him, but not so much as to bog the narrative down. I wasn't a young man, but I was young long, long ago and could identify with the hope and exasperation, the fear and the fun, the independence so yearned for and the dependence on others young folks are loathe to admit.
The narrative wrapped things up well enough with one of the most hilarious endings I've ever read. I seriously had to put the book down for a minute to gather myself before I could continue. And if some of you read the ending first--shame on you but you will genuinely rob yourself. So don't. Just don't. I felt good for Jack at the end; I really did. But you know what? I really wish he wasn't a fictional character because I wouldn't mind if he dropped me a line to let me know how it's going and if he's met any more freaks.
I wish I could give this book 10 stars! It was hilarious and insightful, and the author no doubt drew from his own experience in the bond market. The book could have a subtitle "Expose of the Bond Market. Great metaphors had me laughing out loud. Do read this book! Last but not least, there were NO grammatical errors. Big congratulations to the author! Well, there was one but it was in a quotation, and it's the way most people "talk. Milne, June 7, Even though I had my doubts that our narrator would succeed in finding fame and fortune in LA after leaving his Spokane, Washington roots, I was rooting for him the whole time!
I was charmed by Jack's naivete' and eagerness and absolutely enchanted by his self-deprecating humor in the midst of his many, many bizarre encounters. I literally laughed out loud throughout the entirety of this witty journey into the world of temporary jobs, financial endeavors, and the uproarious, "freakish" characters that Jack meets along the way.
Jans' use of the character of Mrs. Pohnkiss, his condescending and haughty neighbor, throughout the novel as an impetus for his determination to forge on in his pursuit of happiness is brilliant. Her eventual comeuppance and the absolute hilarity of the final pages at the end of the novel provide the reader with a profusion of humor mixed with a profound poignancy that we share with Jack as he realizes what is truly important in life.
Fasten your seat belts, readers, as Jans takes you on a wildly humorous, bawdy, and boisterous ride through a young man's search for acceptance, for accreditation, and for the resolution that we all seek for ourselves. I've spent many hours over several days browsing all the message boards and trying about 6 - 7 suggestions for fixes. My problem seems to be that i-Tunes has divided my songs into 2 libraries and will only sync one of them.
It looks like the last songs I purchased got downloaded into a new library but they still appear in my i-Tunes library. I could play them on my computer but can't sync them to my i-pod. I tried deauthorizing and reauthorizing my i-pod but that didn't work. Any suggestions? May 21, PM. Within iTunes I edited the "info" of the songs to be as simple as possible. In particular, I took out quotation marks or other punctuation "!? Then magically the files transferred when I dragged them over to the iPod.
Not sure if this will work for anyone else, but it worked for me, on both purchased iTunes songs and a few outside mp3s. Jun 5, PM. Aug 23, PM in response to jemini In response to jemini Thank you for sharing that info! Both songs that would not sync on my iPod had parentheses included in the titles. It's odd that that's now an issue after countless song purchases that contained characters.

It is a short book and makes for an entertaining afternoon's reading. There is Reviews:
